Town of Hammonton

PSA: The Town has experienced a recent number of dead geese reported at Hammonton Lake. Officials said the cases are likely associated with avian flu (bird flu) and want residents to be aware and cautious.

As state officials investigate a suspected H5N1 bird flu outbreak with the discovery of more than 1,000 dead or dying geese across the state, the Atlantic County Division of Public Health reminds residents to avoid unprotected contact with sick or infected birds and other animals.

According to the New Jersey Department of Health the general risk of H5N1 bird flu to the public is low, with no human cases reported in the state at this time. Transmission to humans is rare, however, dogs and cats are susceptible to the disease and should avoid all contact with deceased birds.

Residents are asked to report sick and dead birds to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) by completing a reporting form available at: dep.nj.gov/njfw/highly-pathogenic-avian-influenza/

Protective measures should be taken if disposing carcasses including eye cover, masking and gloves. Carcasses should be double-bagged before placing in the trash.

Residents can also call Hammonton Town Hall at 609-567-4300 Ext. 105 to arrange pick-up and disposal or email townclerk@townofhammonton.org to report deceased geese. Please call Police Dispatch at 609-567-4300 Ext. 222 after regular hours.

I think it was no food or water birds can't live without water

have any of these geese or ducks been tested ? have they tested positive? some how everyone has gone straight to avian flu.

There is a dead falcon on the woods line 220 park avenue between the two apt buildings

Not that they would tell the truth but they need to start testing these birds and see if they have any of the toxic concoction they put on the road before the snow which is the brine which is radioactive toxic waste from fracturing Shale that's harmful to all of us they found a way to get rid of it without having to pay for it just like they did with fluoride in the water

There has been a dead goose for days on the side of the white horse Pike on the border of Hammonton and Winslow next to the lake that Elmtown sits along...the geese in that lake are in the hundreds or more and they sound like a freight train when they all fly around...I'm sure there is plenty of dead ones on that lake but I can't see due to all the brush! Sucks for the poor birds, but all them flying over my house I worry about my dog

Thank you for letting us know.

Collings lakes has the same problem my friend said 👏

Each county should do a Investigation on birds found in Their county.. Maybe ? Chemicals ..used on Roads and Sidewalk..could be the Problem…. Possibly..Leading to other Fish and Wildlife Death coming. Hard to believe Flue could spread this Fast.. No water..no Food, super Cold temperatures for long time could add to Stress Creatures are facing..
