Weymouth Road Bridge Repair Project
The Weymouth Road Bridge is located over the NJ TRANSIT Atlantic City Rail line in Hammonton, Atlantic County. NJ TRANSIT has been assigned joint jurisdiction for maintenance of the bridge structure, while Atlantic County retains jurisdiction for maintenance of the roadway elements. New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) made a determination which required the bridge to be closed in late January 2026 until repairs can be completed. Before the closure, heavy truck traffic over the bridge had been repeatedly observed in violation of the bridge’s posted load restrictions causing damage to the bridge.
Bridge Repair Work
- NJ TRANSIT is advancing approximately $3 million in structural repairs
- Repairs include steel girder and decking work
- The structural design work is in the final approval phase
- Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2026
Local Detour Required
- NJ TRANSIT worked closely with local officials to develop the required detour
- Two detours were established as requested by local officials to keep heavy trucks off residential streets
- Detours were approved by NJDOT
