Reference: Fatal Helicopter Crash, Hammonton, NJ
At approximately 11:25 AM on December 28th, 2025 the Hammonton Police Department received a report of an aviation crash between two helicopters. The midair collision was between an Enstrom model 280C and an Enstrom model F-28A which had both departed from the Hammonton Municipal Airport.
The helicopters crash landed in a field and tree line in the 100 block of Basin Road. One helicopter was engulfed in flames. The Hammonton Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the helicopter that was in flames in the field. Hammonton Police and AtlantiCare EMS personnel assisted the pilot that was removed by local residents from the helicopter that had crashed in the tree line.
The pilot of the model F-28A was flown to Cooper hospital via medivac, and identified as Kenneth L. Kirsch, 65, of Carney’s Point, NJ. Kirsch succumbed to injuries and was pronounced at the hospital.
The pilot of the model 280C was identified as Michael Greenberg, 71, of Sewell, NJ , and was pronounced at the scene of the crash.
Statements from witnesses had the two helicopters flying close together just before the crash. The crash site was approximately a mile and a half from the airport in a farm field.
The Federal Aviation Administration investigators responded to the scene and began their investigation.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board have arrived to investigate and retrieve both helicopters. The scene is still being held for investigation.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by FAA & NTSB.
