The Town of Hammonton has officially announced the launch of its new Hometown Heroes Banner Program, a community-wide initiative designed to serve as a living tribute to past and present members of the United States Armed Forces. The program invites residents, business owners, and community organizations to unite in honoring local veterans and active-duty military personnel.

The visual banners will be prominently displayed throughout Town, offering a highly visible acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by Hammonton’s service members. Each banner will feature the individual’s name, military branch, era of service, and a photograph, providing a deeply personalized connection between the community and its defenders.

Community members who wish to participate, submit a loved one’s profile, or offer volunteer assistance must deliver all informational materials by September 15th, 2026.

Inquiries regarding sponsorships or volunteer opportunities should be directed to Councilperson JD Calderone via email at jdcalderone@townofhammonton.org.

To complete your submission, please provide three items: a copy of the completed Honoree Form (download below), a photo of the veteran (if you need to make a copy, Walgreens offers excellent photo services at a reasonable price), and a check for $130 made out to American Legion Post 186, with the veteran’s name included on the check. Kindly place these items in an envelope and drop them off in the Town Hall drop box, addressed to Councilman JD Calderone, by September 15th, 2026.

The Hammonton Veterans Affairs Committee (HVAC) is a volunteer advisory committee. The mission of the HVAC is to advocate for present and past veterans of the Town of Hammonton and to promote and highlight the service, dedication, and sacrifices that veterans have made for our community and the nation. The vision of this committee is to educate, empower and engage our veterans as best we can, to be a valuable resource in helping them improve their quality of life and to create community awareness of the historical significance of veterans and their contributions.

New Jersey is home to more than 340,000 proud veterans, yet many live with wounds we cannot see and among them, there are more than 53,000 disabled veterans, many of whom struggle with mental illness stemming from their service. Hundreds of veterans are homeless. In gratitude for and out of respect for that service, the New Jersey Resource Guide for Servicemembers, Veterans, and Families is intended to connect the veteran’s community with critical resources and programs.

This guide provides relevant information to New Jersey’s Veterans community. Keeping you informed is part of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (NJDMAVA) continuing outreach efforts. Many New Jersey Veterans are unaware of the numerous federal and state program benefits, entitlements and services they have earned in defense of this great nation.
