Become a Volunteer Firefighter

Joining the ranks of volunteer firefighters requires a strong commitment and extensive training. If you are prepared to invest your time and energy, the Hammonton Fire Department welcomes your application. There are two fire companies and prospective members can choose to apply to either based on their preferences and location.

Our dedicated team can be found at the firehouses located on Front Street (Station 1) and the White Horse Pike (Station 2) every Wednesday evening, where they engage in routine training, equipment maintenance, and departmental drills. We encourage you to visit and meet our members; it could be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life.

Membership Application

Please fill out the application to the best of your knowledge. Once you are finished you can take the application to the Municipal Clerk‘s office located on the 3rd floor at Hammonton Town Hall, 100 Central Ave., Hammonton, NJ, or stop by the fire company of your choosing. Members are there regularly between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. every Wednesday.

Junior Firefighter Program

Junior firefighter programs give young people the chance to learn about local fire and rescue response organizations in a safe, controlled, educational, and fun way.

Benefits of the junior firefighter programs include:

  • Gaining insight and interest in becoming long-term members of the emergency services
  • Increasing awareness about volunteering and supporting local community organizations.
  • Providing additional help to the fire department in accomplishing non-firefighting or non-emergency tasks
  • Leadership development

Individuals between the ages of 16 and 18 are invited to apply. Prior to acceptance, it is necessary to consult with and obtain approval from a parent or guardian.

In an emergency, dial 9-1-1 immediately. An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance.

For non-emergencies call Hammonton Police Dispatch at 609-567-4300 Ext. 222

When you call 9-1-1, be prepared to answer the call-taker’s questions, which may include:

  • The location of the emergency, including the street address
  • The phone number you are calling from
  • The nature of the emergency

Details about the emergency, such as a physical description of a person who may have committed a crime, a description of any fire that may be burning, or a description of injuries or symptoms being experienced by a person having a medical emergency.

Remember, the call-taker’s questions are important to get the right kind of help to you quickly. Be prepared to follow any instructions the call-taker gives you. 9-1-1 call centers can tell you what to do until help arrives. Do not hang up until the call-taker instructs you to do so.
