Disposal of Refrigerators, Freezers and Air Conditioners
Residents can dispose of refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners during the monthly bulk trash collection, but they must first obtain a refrigerant permit costing $10.00 per item. This permit can be acquired at the Tax Collector’s window on the second floor at Hammonton Town Hall, located at 100 Central Avenue. Proof of residency is required to obtain the permit/sticker and it must be affixed to the item being discarded. For further information, please contact 609-567-4300 ext. 119.
Bulk trash is collected on the first full week of each month, Monday through Friday, on your scheduled trash day.
All refrigerator and freezer doors MUST be removed before placing outside for curbside bulk trash pickup per the Town of Hammonton Refrigerator Door Removal Ordinance.
Donation
It’s important to consider your fridge’s condition to find the best disposal option. If your appliance is still in good working condition but you wish to replace it, donating it is a great option. Many local charities thrift stores and shelters would appreciate your donation.
Retailer Take-Back Programs
When purchasing a new refrigerator, many appliance retailers will offer to haul away your old unit. Retailers like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Best Buy often have haul-away options when you buy a new appliance. This can be one of the easiest methods for Hammonton fridge recycling.
