Hammonton Snowstorm Guidelines
The Hammonton Police and Public Works Department urges residents to avoid parking on the streets during snowstorms to ensure efficient snow removal.
According to the Town of Hammonton’s municipal ordinance regarding Snow Emergency No Parking Areas, certain roads are designated as no-parking zones when snow accumulates. All vehicles must be moved off the road before a storm begins, as town vehicles will not clear driveways, and any vehicles left behind may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Property and business owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the sidewalks adjacent to their properties within 12 hours of daylight after snowfall and they should avoid obstructing fire hydrants with snow piles.
The Public Works Department is committed to maintaining safe driving conditions, which may require multiple plowing passes on streets, leading to snow accumulation at driveway aprons. Homeowners are responsible for clearing their driveways and walkways.
To ease the snow removal process, residents are advised to place trash and recycling toters at the curb for collection and remove them promptly.
Wait for at least 2 passes from town trucks before clearing their areas. Additionally, snow should be directed onto the curb or grass rather than into the street to prevent hazardous ice formation.
To facilitate efficient snow removal, please refrain from parking vehicles on the street for 1 hour after snowfall begins and 10 hours after it has ceased. This practice not only accelerates the plowing process but also helps prevent vehicles from being inadvertently buried in snow.
It is essential for residents to clear snow from sidewalks after a snowfall to ensure pedestrian safety, particularly for children walking to school and accessing bus stops throughout the community.
In cases of significant snowfall, please take the time to shovel around your mailbox and any nearby fire hydrants to ensure safety for both yourself and your neighbors.
It is important to note that not all roads in Hammonton are maintained by the Public Works Department. During inclement weather, we often receive inquiries regarding road conditions that fall under the jurisdiction of County or State authorities.
