
Property Records
To acquire a list of property owners located within 200 feet of a specific block and lot, a fee of $10.00 is required for up to 40 property owners and their addresses. For any additional property owners beyond the initial 40, a charge of 25¢ per owner and corresponding address will apply.
Senior Citizen, Disabled Person or Surviving Spouse Deduction
Applications may be obtained at the Tax Assessor’s office during regular business hours. For a disabled person, there is no age limit. Also, proof of income is a criteria. You must reasonably anticipate that income received during the tax year, including income of claimant’s spouse, will not exceed $10,000.
You can exclude one of the following three:
- Social Security Benefits,
- Federal Government Retirement/Disability Pension including Federal Railroad Retirement Benefits, or
- State, County, Municipal Government and their political subdivisions and agencies Retirement/Disability Pension.
To apply, you must provide proof of age, confirming that you are at least 65 years old as of December 31st of the pretax year. For surviving spouses, the minimum age requirement is 55 years or older.
Veteran or Surviving Spouse Deduction
You can obtain applications for this deduction at the Tax Assessor’s office. To qualify, you must have been honorably discharged from active service. When applying, please remember to bring your DD-214 form.
Note: Effective December 4, 2020, State law (P.L. 2019, c. 413) eliminates the wartime service requirement for the $250 Veterans Property Tax Deduction. Veterans must have active duty service with an honorable discharge. Reservists and National Guard personnel must be called to active duty service to qualify. Active duty for training continues to be ineligible.
If you are an honorably discharged veteran with active duty military service, you may qualify for an annual $250 Property Tax Deduction.
You also may qualify if you are a surviving spouse/civil union/domestic partner of an honorably discharged veteran with active duty military service.
Eligibility Requirements
With respect to the $250 Veterans Property Tax Deduction, the pretax year is October 1, 2020, with the deduction applied to the property taxes for Calendar Year 2021.
To qualify, as of October 1 of the pretax year, you must:
- Be a legal resident of New Jersey
- Own the property
- Have active duty service in the United States Armed Forces with an honorable discharge
Eligibility Requirements for Surviving Spouse/Civil Union/Domestic Partner
To qualify, as of October 1 of the pretax year, you must:
- Be a legal resident of New Jersey
- Own the property
- Confirm the military service person died on active duty
- Demonstrate the deceased veteran had active duty service in the United States Armed Forces with an honorable discharge
- Document that the deceased veteran or military service person was a resident of New Jersey at the time of death
- Have not remarried or formed a new registered civil union/domestic partnership

- Death Certificate
- Deed
- Probated Will
- Marriage/Civil Union/Domestic Partner Certificate
- Military Records (DD 214)
- New Jersey Driver’s License
- New Jersey Voter’s Registration
Farmland Assessment Application
Applications should be filed on or before august 1st of the pretax year. You must have at least 5 acres devoted to agricultural or horticultural use for at least 2 successive years. Annual income from gross sales should be at least $500 for the first 5 acres and $5 per acre on acreage above 5 acres.
Assessed Value Appeal Instructions
If you disagree with your assessed value, you may file an appeal with the Atlantic County Board of taxation located at Mays Landing Government Complex, 5909 Main Street, Second Floor, Mays Landing, New Jersey 08330.
Assessment appeals must be filed on or before April 1st of the current year. In a revaluation year, the assessment appeals must be filed on or before May 1st of the current tax year.
