Applications for firearms are handled by the Office of the Chief of Police. This includes initial application for firearms identification cards, changes of address, handgun permits and other related matters. Applicants must pick up an application packet (which contains forms and materials specific to the type of permit that the applicant is requesting), complete the required information, and return the materials along with applicable fees to the Police Department. From there, the applicant may undergo a background investigation and fingerprinting, if applicable.
There are certain fees that apply to firearms permits. The specific fees that apply are detailed in the information packet that an applicant must pick up. For background purposes, some of the fees are listed below.
The following fees can be paid by cash, check or money order payable to the "Hammonton Police Department". Your method of payment must be in exact amount due, change is not available.
$5.00 Application for Firearms Identification Card (paid at pick-up)
$2.00 Application for Permit to Purchase Handgun (paid at pick-up)
The following fees must be paid by Cashier's Check, Certified Check or Money Order payable to the "Division of State Police - S.B.I."
- $18.00 Application for “Permit to Purchase a Handgun” and/or "Duplicate I.D. Card". A Criminal History Record Check is required.
Some applicants may be required to be fingerprinted. The service is provided by a company named Morpho Trak; the Police Department no longer provides fingerprinting for Firearms permitting. If you are an applicant that required fingerprinting, when you return your completed packet you will be given additional forms and information on how to schedule an appointment with Morpho Trak for the State and F.B.I. fingerprinting process. www.bioapplicant.com/nj.
